NEW MUSIC | Gypsy & the Cat + Client Liaison ‘Evolution’

The SS Yatch Rock set its proverbial sail afloat through Melbourne this month and on board were power synth duos of Gypsy & the Cat and Client Liaison. The creative time out led to time in the recording studio together and collaborative single ‘Evolution’ was conceived.

‘Evolution’ weaves those giant musical hooks that first announced Gypsy & the Cat around the performance funky flair of Client Liaison. The combination allows for both the attraction and the edge when they chant “I am the life that defies evolution!”, a true joint-venture, perfectly paired.

The influential U.S. Blog Neon Gold premiered the single today saying “In the ultimate Down Under double down, Gypsy & The Cat and our new live heroes, Client Liaison, have joined forces on their debut collaboration in the form of “Evolution”. Taking the best parts of both groups, the track is peak ’80s bliss, springing forward with all the sunny side up synths and glimmering gold coast melodies we’ve come to expect from the two luminaries” Client Liaison are otherwise both in the studio and on the road having just played key shows in the US this month and booked both Splendour in the Grass and Listen Out festivals into their immediate tour diary. Gypsy & the Cat are in the studio finishing their third album for release in the upcoming summer 2015.

New Music: Gypsy & The Cat ‘Bloom’

GYPSY & THE CAT sailed their 80’s synth infused take on yatch rock through the musical waters with their debut album GILGAMESH. Created by early 20 year olds at the time and in their own home studio, it excited the likes of Neon Gold, found a release on Young and Lost in the UK, a slot on a Kitsune Maison compilation, and a spot on NME Poll for the twenty “most likely”, all on it’s own musical merit. GYPSY & THE CAT were then surrounded by industry and expectations and the ultimate result turned out to be a band evolving through their own journey of touring, writing and listening.

The next taste of that evolution is the new single BLOOM, a sonic melting pot of a soaring infectious refrain. A dreamscape ballad with washed out melodies and driving tom-fuelled rock and dance-floor highs. It was recorded and produced again by the band and mixed with style by Dave Fridmann, the man on the board for the likes of MGMT, Tame Impala and The Flaming Lips.
It comes from the forthcoming long player #2 called THE LATE BLUE which is planned for Australian release through the bands new indie label Alsatian Music on October 19th.

New Music: Gypsy and The Cat ‘Sorry’

Really love these guys, they absolutely nailed their gig when I caught them live on stage as a support act to our very own Kylie. They are Gypsy and The Cat and this is there new single ‘Sorry’ which is from their second album out later this year. You can catch my front row snaps and video from their Melbourne show right here… Gypsy and The Cat Shine On Home Turf Melbourne!

GYPSY & THE CAT SHINE ON HOME TURF MELBOURNE

Gypsy & The Cat made an immediate impact with the screaming crowd as they took to the stage in their support act for Kylie Minogue on June 14, 15 & 16 at Rod Laver Arena.
Unfortunately for the band, their Perth performance was cancelled due to the volcanic ash cloud that restricted flights in and out of Western Australia and Victoria. Kylie’s fans for the Perth show were warmed up and entertained by Kylie’s DJ, enough for them to prime themselves for Madam Minogue herself. It’s unfortunate for Perth show goers as I’m sure they would have really enjoyed seeing Xavier Bacash and Lionel Towers spin their magic on stage. They looked relaxed on their home turf in Melbourne with 30 minutes of performance time. Those in the queue for Splash Zone entry heard the name Gypsy & The Cat float around the floor, some not heard of the band at all. On a personal note, I vouched for the boys, hinting to those infront and behind that they were about to witness something special – my words caught the attention of a man standing aside, he approached me and said that he was glad he heard me say that as one of the boys from the band was his son. He stood proud… Good on him too. We got to hear a few goodies, including Time To Wander, The Piper’s Song and Jona Vark. Remember the name folks – GYPSY & THE CAT…In this video we are treated to a special live rendition of The Piper’s Song.

Gypsy & The Cat will support Kylie Minogue here in Australia for her upcoming Aphrodite Live Les Folies Tour. Xavier Bacash and Lionel Towers form the electro-pop duo who are based in Melbourne. Gilgamesh, the album released in November of 2010 has received plenty of airplay from local radio stations Nova and Triple J. The album peaked at #14 in Australia and will be sure to climb up the charts again when the duo take to the stage for the upcoming Kylie shows across the country.
