Aussie country music artist, Robbie Mortimer sits down with us for a special interview and preview of his latest single ‘Blow Up The Speakers.’
How and where did it all begin for you? What drew your interest to the music industry?
Music was always a huge part of upbringing, mum and dad always had musidc playing, but I remember watching the music video to ‘Smooth’ by Rob Thomas and Carlos Sanata and loving how it made me feel. – we also had a Garth Brooks Live concert tape growing up that we would always take on holidays with us! That’s how I knew I wanted to be a performer.
What motivates or influences you in your quest to make great music?
I love hearing peoples stories, reading books or hearing what people have been through on their own journey and creating art from that. I love being observant of my surroundings. It helps me write and I gain lots of inspo from that.
What are some of your biggest goals you hope to accomplish?
I love to have a charting song, but mostly, I love performing live. I have lots of festivals I have manifested. Most of all, I’d love to write a song with Hardy and be become a well-respected Australian Country Music artist who paves the way for other Australians.
What can we expect from you in the coming months? Any plans to tour?
I am touring with the PBR Monster Energy Tour as their half time performer. I have a few singles ready for launch this year.
Tell us a bit about your latest release and how would you best describe your music?
My latest single is a high energy song that plays into nostalgia and how music can transport us back in time to a certain person, place or memory. It is a Country Rock Anthem.
Give us an insight into your creative process. What gets you writing songs?
Meeting people and observing their backgrounds and stories. I feel a lot, so I love putting that into words. It can be a very vulnerable spot, but I am proud that I have the ability to dive deep and really feel. It helps me create if I just let go and explore those places.
Is there a hidden meaning in any of your music?
My music has a general theme of optimism, hope, courage and helping people feel what they need to.

Success, what is the secret to it?
HARD WORK BEATS TALENT. People miss opportunities because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. Don’t say it, just do it. The rewards will come.
What has been your biggest career highlight so far?
Writing a song with Wyatt Duette in Nashville and performing as the halftime performer in 2023 to sold out arenas with the PBR tour.
Which stars of the music industry do you find inspiring?
I have a broad appreciation of music but to name my biggest influences:
- Rob Thomas (Matchbox 20)
- Morgan Wallen
- Zac Brown
- INXS
Are there any new projects in the pipeline?
I aim to release a mixture of singles and DSP’s this year.
The music industry is constantly changing, where do you see yourself a few years?
I aim to be established household name in the industry, known for great music that connects to fans and as a captivating live performer with a show that cannot be missed.
What is your favourite and least favourite part about this line of work and why?
Favourite is creating and performing live.
Least favourite – more time is spent on content then the creation of the art. I feel good music should be the most important thing and I always will believe that.
Name a few of your favourite Australian artists.
- James Johnston
- Brad Cox
- John Williamson
The shape of the music industry has changed significantly over the years, including the use of social media, how do you feel about the industry as a whole and what does it mean to you in getting your records out into the public eye?
I have recently had a great experience with un released song Blow the Speakers gaining amazing traction because of the use of socials, so I do appreciate it. However, I feel like that happened because people connected to the song, so I will always put effort into making he best song I can, and the rest will come.
How will you continue appealing to the international market?

Staying authentic and true. A slow climb means a slow fall. Staying true to myself will be appealing to those overseas.
Do you collaborate with others? Who is on your wish-list?
I love writing songs with other people. I’d love to collaborate with Morgan Wallen, Hardy, Zac Brown and write a song with Rob Thomas.
What advice do you give for other artists wanting to follow in your footsteps?
- Listen to the right people but have enough bravery to just go for it if your gut tells you too.
- Don’t take no for an answer, find a way.
- It wont happen unless you work your arse off!!! It’s as simple as that.
- Set a standard to be better than the gap. Find a way to win.
A message for your fans. How do you best interact and respond with your followers and fans?
I love and prefer to interact in person! I think it is so so so important these days. So at shows or any opportunity I can. I want people to have the opportunity to say hello and shair their story with me. That’s real connection that wins fans who become friends.
Any last words?
My motto – take the biggest bite you can and chew like hell.
