Give us an introduction. How did it all begin? What had you first interested in music?

At five years old, I watched the Music Man on TV with my mom and I couldn’t getenough. I started singing the songs around the house, and memorizing the lines of all the different characters. From there I started preforming in local theatre, learning guitar and singing at church.

What motivates or influences you in your quest to make great music?

The philosophy behind my art is that we all have subconscious desires that are too wild to verbalize. Our spoken words reveal how we want other people to perceive us. Our words build our reputation. But on the inside, one can search out the thoughts that will never touch our lips. The words that run through our minds late at night and early in the morning as we stand under the water of a hot shower… My hope is to take those wild words, and fuse them into melody.

What are your biggest goals you hope to accomplish as an artist?

My goal is to become a household name. I dream of camping trips where families gather around a fire and sing my songs. Music has brought people together for thousands ofyears. I just believe it’s my turn to write the melodies.

What can we expect from you in the coming months? Any plans to tour?

I have a new single coming out on February 14th (Valentine’s Day). But this won’t be yourtypical love ballad. This song will highlight the pain that many people, single and inrelationships, feel on valentine’s day.

Tell us a bit about your latest album and how would you best describe your music?

I write songs for people to sing. Like a lot of pop songs, I go for big chorus ballads with personal lyrics that many people can relate to. Like I said before, my goal is to fuse those words we dare not say out loud, into a melody that we will sing in the shower at the top of our lungs.

Success, what is the secret to it?

Success is dependent on a definition. For every person reading this post one might find a different definition of success. So, I will answer this question with another question: Who defines success for you? Just something interesting to think about.

What has been your biggest career highlight?

The most incredible moments of my career have been spent with my producer ZachBolen from the band “Citizens.” He is a musical hero of mine, and getting to work withhim on my songs has grown me as a professional, as a musician and as a man.

Which stars of the music industry do you find inspiring?

James Bay: To me he is the epitome of musical brilliance. His vocal tone, range and precision on the guitar provides an example for me to strive for. His song writing is full of the passion and story that I want to achieve in my own music. He will always be my favourite singer/songwriter.

Any new projects in the pipeline?

I have a new single coming out on February 14th (Valentine’s Day).

The music industry is huge, where do you see yourself a few years from now? Headlining Saturday Night Live.

Name a few of your favourite Aussie artists.

My favourite Aussie artist is definitely Vance Joy. His song writing is so representative ofmany supressed emotions. The song “I’m with You” from his latest record paints abeautiful picture of what it feels like when you want to give your all to someone, but you are struggling to find the words to express that feeling. The verses build and build andbuild on that emotional tension… but the simplicity of the chorus is so refreshing and freeing.

The shape of the music industry has changed significantly over the years, including the use of social media, how do you feel about the industry as a whole and what does it mean to you in getting your records out into the public eye?

For me it’s all about quality. There are so many distractions when it comes to marketing, social media and the rest. But what I can control is the quality of my product. I want to provide my listeners with the best possible songs I can come up with. I believe if I do thatwell, it won’t matter what the industry is like.
