How and where did it all begin for you? What drew your interest to the music industry?

I worked on a charity album, with a charity called Music for Youth where 30-40 kids from across the UK came to record instruments on my record & one of the tracks got remixed and suddenly I’m sitting next to Lady Gaga & The scissor sisters on the charts. I then got calls from amazing producers to write an original album and on one of the tracks I needed a rapper. I thought I would revisit one of the talented kids from the charity but one thing led to another and I ended up collaborating with Snoop Dogg! I have been very fortunate to get that opportunity & it opened a lot of doors for me!

Give us an introduction. How did it all begin? What had you first interested in music? It all began the day I woke up in the dry Todd riverbed being kicked in the stomach by an old Aboriginal woman and told to move on. I had been missing for three days on an alcohol and drug fuelled bender. It was at this I point I realised change needed to happen. All my thought allowed me to do was cast my mind back to how music was my only real escape from a traumatic childhood. Music was the doorway to the possibilities of so many different beginnings. I always wanted to be an entertainer of sorts from the times when I’d sneak my mothers’ vinyls and listen to my dads’ cassette collection. Flicking through family and friends record collections. Discovering adventures, tails, poetry, love and passion through songs and the realisation that if you are meant to be on a particular path the universe will find a way to bring you back to your true north. (Very hippie I know but that’s the truth) Music has been my one true freedom. Continue reading

SPECIAL INTERVIEW: Duncan Saige

Duncan Saige

theaussieword.com special interview with Aussie singer/songwriter Duncan Saige.

How and where did it all begin for you? What drew your interest to the music industry? I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth so the butlers, servants and jesters at my parents massive estate would teach some little things on the piano and guitar. When Mum flew Tom Jones over for her 40th I really wanted to be in a band and play music.

NEW MUSIC: Casey Barnes – ‘Better Days’

SPECIAL INTERVIEW: Nathan Ball

theaussieword.com special interview with alternative/indie UK singer/songwriter Nathan Ball.

How and where did it all begin for you? What drew your interest to the music industry? I’d always been obsessed with music as a kid, my main memories of music in my childhood were driving in the car with my parents. There was always a bit of Van Morrison or T-Rex on the stereo. Music didn’t run in the family though, none of my family are musical, so it was just through interest at school that I picked up a guitar and started singing. I pretty much wrote songs from that day onwards.DxNVSUNW0AUzych

What motivates or influences you in your quest to make great music? I like making music that makes you feel something and tugs on the heartstrings, so there is always alot of emotion in my music, whether that be the lyrics or the vocal melody, alot of thought goes into the feeling and the vibe of the song. Seeing people connect with those songs during the live show is the most amazing feeling. I often see people with their eyes closed or having a little cry during the set and it means the world that people connect with the songs so strongly.Continue reading

SPECIAL INTERVIEW: Daniel Shaw

theaussieword.com goes one on one with local Melbourne singer/songwriter Daniel Shaw.

How and where did it all begin for you? What drew your interest to the music industry?

Music all started for me when I was 6 years old. My Dad started me and my sister off on the piano, and she eventually stopped playing but I continued. I then got classical lessons once my Dad could no longer help me. When I was 8 I started combining singing with piano, and this was really when I started looking up to Billy Joel and Elton John as musical idols. My Dad saw that I was passionate about becoming a global success like them, and he helped me start street performing in Melbourne every weekend. My interest in the music industry really developed after going to a Billy Joel concert in 2008. I remember dreaming about how one day I would also tour the world making music and performing globally.Continue reading

Duncan Saige announces new single and tour for ‘Thoughts of You Without Me’ kicking off 2019 with some excellent laid-back summery feels, Margaret River’s Duncan Saige is pleased to announce his new single Thoughts of You Without Me. A universal love song about the transition of going through a break-up, the track is a first taste of Duncan’s new EP due out this year. While on hiatus from accomplished Perth indie-surf-rockers Stillwater Giants, Henry Clarke (as his family calls him) has achieved a lot in little time for Duncan Saige. A regular on the WA touring circuit, the release of first EP I’m Saved and recent single Pumping Up My Life garnered widespread airplay (inc triple j) and East Coast touring, festival appearances (inc. Falls and Freo Folk and Nannup) and support slots galore.
