SPECIAL INTERVIEW: Sydney Lauren

New York Singer/Songwriter Sydney Lauren goes one on one with theaussieword.com!

Give us an introduction. How did it all begin? What had you first interested in music? When I was a child, I was extremely shy. Performing is probably something you’d never think I’d go into. I was always a huge music lover but I stuck to singing in my bedroom when no one was home. My grandparents had a beautiful antique piano in their home and whenever we would go visit I’d sit there for hours and dabble. Eventually my parents had enough of my begging and they let me take piano and guitar lessons. I figured if I could accompany myself with an instrument, it’d be easier to sing in front of people. Eventually my passion developed and I started writing and performing more and more! Continue reading SPECIAL INTERVIEW: Sydney Lauren

NEW MUSIC: Kate Usher & the Sturdy Souls ‘Halfway’

Montauk, NY’s Kate Usher & The Sturdy Souls are thrilled to share their debut single, Halfway, which is available now on all digital platforms. Halfway is a catchy R&B jam, led by Usher’s distinctive smokey vocal style and sublimely backed by the laid-back groove of The Sturdy Souls. Funk guitar chops weave around sleek saxophone lines and ride atop a tight bass and drum kit groove, embracing influences that span the history of popular music. There’s no denying that there is a nod to the past in the sounds of The Sturdy Souls, but they also keep one foot firmly in the now. These are songs for, and about, today. Songs from the beach-front with an irrepressible groove that will resonate with city-dwellers and villagers alike.
