SPECIAL INTERVIEW: Lyel

theaussieword.com’s special interview with European artist Lyel!

Tell us how it all started. What had you first interested in music? My mom many times sang me to sleep when I was a baby with her guitar, I learned my first chords from her and still don’t play many more haha but I shouldn’t say this to14100282_1096566170429086_5616537992302520055_n.pngo loud. With a few months, I got a small drum for christmas, I still love t play drums once in a while – very poorly though. My mom’s record collection fascinated me too when I was a baby so that one night I took all records out of the shelf and their covers and when my mom woke up that night, she found me sitting surrounded by records spread all across the floor, happy cos it was the only time I was not stopped doing so.

What motivates or influences you in your quest to make great music? People, nature and everything in between.

What are your biggest goals you hope to accomplish as an artist? Keep being and making others happy with what I do.

Success, what is the secret to it? Trust yourself -success has many definitions.

What has been your biggest career highlight so far? Now that I get to dedicate my new single to a person who was nothing but music. He unfortunately and unexpectedly passed very recently and I think he would be proud if he could hear the song. He believed in what I do no matter how hard it has been. I hope this song gives hope to others who are not able to see the treasure they are.

Which stars of the music industry do you find inspiring? .. SIA, Eivor, Sigur rose, Pink Floyd, Pink, Tori Amos ..the list is endless

The music industry is huge, where do you see yourself a few years from now? Still writing music and sharing it with as many people as possible. It would be something!

The shape of the music industry has changed significantly over the years, including the use of social media, how do you feel about the industry as a whole and what does it mean to you in getting your records out into the public eye? I feel the industry is getting more colourful, adaptive.. it is easier to share your music when at the same time harder to stick out as an artist. I am not sure if this is necessarily a negative thing though. I believe change is always good and scary at the same time and I guess we just have to give our best and continue making the music we love.

Name a few of your favourite Aussie artists. Sia, sia, sia, Nick Cave, Missy Higgins, and Kylie of course 🙂

What can we expect from you in the coming months? Any plans to tour? My debut EP is scheduled for release on September 30st, I’ve worked long and hard towards this and cant believe I’m almost there. I am also planning to release more spoken word poetry later this year, as I did with my track ‘Empath’ in April. All else is in planning and will come soon.

Tell us a bit about your latest record, how would you best describe your music? Colourful, a collaboration of people as I have been co-writing a lot with other musicians for the songs of this ep. I am myself excited about what is yet to come.

Do you have any new projects in the pipeline? Currently I am working on a feature track that I hope is going to work out great. If so, you’ll hear about it in the new year!

Thanks for the interview! What final message do you have for us today? Wild hearts can’t be broken <3 .. and if so, hold on ..the storm will pass.
