Special Interview: Bailey Rodrigues

THEAUSSIEWORD.COM catches up with hip hop and Gold Coast rapper Bailey Rodrigues.

How and where did it all begin for you? What drew your interest in the music industry?

It all began for me when I met G-Eazy backstage at one of his shows in 2016. I always loved rap and music but meeting him really switched my mindset and made me realize this is all I want to do.

What motivates or influences you in your quest to make great music?

I’m a very passionate person so whatever I do I like to give it my all and perform my best. Me making great music isn’t only going to help me it will help others too so I always strive to make my next song my best one yet.

What are some of the biggest goals you hope to accomplish?

I want to be the biggest artist in Australia while being globally known.

What can we expect from you in the coming months? Any plans to tour?

I have a 6 song EP coming out in early 2023 followed by a pool party event hosted by RODRIGUES RECORDS. Following that, I will have music videos releasing.

Tell us a bit about your latest release and how would you best describe your music.

Who dis is an instant feel-good track that brings you nothing but good vibes for your summer. I like to think my music right now is a mixture of young franco and G-Eazy. Nothing but good vibes and bars.

Give us an insight into your creative process. What gets you writing songs?

I usually start off by freestyling to beats and try to catch a vibe that way if nothing clicks it’s onto the next one until I do. I never like to force anything so I could go through 20 beats before I find something im feeling.

Is there a hidden meaning in any of your music?

In some songs, there is where I’m diving into my mind a bit more with the conscious rap. With my new song who dis there is nothing hidden about it, what you see is what you get.

Success, what is the secret to it?

I’m still trying to figure this one out but I do believe consistency and self-belief are key ingredients.

What has been your biggest career highlight so far?

Headlining my own show that was all independently ran by my record label Rodrigues Records.

Which stars of the music industry do you find inspiring?

G-Eazy and Russ are my favourites at the moment. The way they have navigated the industry really inspires me.

Are there any new projects in the pipeline?

I have a 6 song EP coming out in early 2023 produced by Matt McGuffie.

The music industry is constantly changing, where do you see yourself in a few years?

On top of the music charts around the world. Touring and working on a studio album.

What is your favourite and least favourite part about this line of work and why?

The music industry is very hard to navigate as an independent artist sometimes because you don’t know who you can trust and what will work for you, its a lot of trial and error that’s got to be my least favourite. My favourite part is when you meet the really great people in the industry and the genuine ones that want to help. I’m currently working with on the map pr and beehive and they have been some of the nicest people I have met in the industry so far.

Name a few of your favourite Australian artists. Tones and I, Adrian Eagle, Allday, Kobie Dee

The shape of the music industry has changed significantly over the years, including the use of social media, how do you feel about the industry as a whole and what does it mean to you in getting your records out into the public eye? I think the industry is in a really good place, the control is slowly moving back towards the artists. Being able to release my music independently to the world is awesome, not having to rely on a label or anyone else is exactly the freedom I want.

How will you continue appealing to the international market? I’ll just keep doing my thing with this house rap movement I think it’s only a matter of time before I crack the international market.

Do you collaborate with others? Who is on your wish list? I’m always open to collaborating if I vibe with it and it’s natural. My dream collab is definitely G-Eazy.

What advice do you give to other artists wanting to follow in your footsteps?

Back yourself and stay consistent.

A message for your fans. How do you best interact and respond with your followers and fans?

Thank you all for the support to anyone that has pressed play on my music it means the world to me. My instagram DMs are always open!
