NEW MUSIC: Kate Usher & the Sturdy Souls ‘Halfway’

Montauk, NY’s Kate Usher & The Sturdy Souls are thrilled to share their debut single, Halfway, which is available now on all digital platforms. Halfway is a catchy R&B jam, led by Usher’s distinctive smokey vocal style and sublimely backed by the laid-back groove of The Sturdy Souls. Funk guitar chops weave around sleek saxophone lines and ride atop a tight bass and drum kit groove, embracing influences that span the history of popular music. There’s no denying that there is a nod to the past in the sounds of The Sturdy Souls, but they also keep one foot firmly in the now. These are songs for, and about, today. Songs from the beach-front with an irrepressible groove that will resonate with city-dwellers and villagers alike.

Kate Usher on Halfway:

“Halfway came into being during my travels in Thailand. On our way to a hostel, my best friend Jill kept saying “we’re halfway there”, and for a moment it felt like she was referring to the halfway point of my life. Halfway is about that feeling of travelling through life without any bearing on how far away you are from the destination, in search of happiness guided by what you feel rather than what you see. Once I felt that, I stopped walking, pulled out my journal, and the lyrics flowed out of me. A month later in California with my guitarist Kevin, I sang the words over his chord progression and the song was born.” — Halfway is the first taster from The Sturdy Souls “Circles” EP – due in mid-May.  “Circles’ was recorded at Grammy-winner Cynthia Daniels’ Monk Music Studios in East Hampton, NY.
