Neighbours Return For Kylie Minogue!?

KYLIE Minogue is reportedly set to don her famous overalls and return to Neighbours for a 30th anniversary special. The singer has teased fans that her tomboy mechanic character Charlene could make a comeback for the special edition of Neighbours next year and now former co-star Anne Charleston has confirmed it according to a UK website.
The singer has been teasing fans that her tomboy mechanic character Charlene could make a comeback for the special edition next year and now Neighbours stalwart Anne Charleston who starred as the beloved Madge Bishop has confirmed her appearance.

Anne, who is currently performing in two plays at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, said: “The Neighbours special thirtieth anniversary is coming up. I will probably be involved and it will go to air in March.
“I think Kylie is on board for the special and I imagine everyone will be in on it because it’s a big occasion.
“I look on those days with fondness and there is no way in hell I’d walk away from the special because it’s a celebration and I think we should all be involved in it.”
Kylie herself had hinted at the reappearance on Twitter just before her appearance at Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games.
She Tweeted with a blushing face: “So…..I bought overalls today. #overalls”.
She also speculated about returning to the show during a recent appearance on BBC’s The One Show, when the hosts played Kylie a spoof video message from Tim Phillips, who recently joined the cast playing Scott and Charlene’s son, Daniel, after which Kylie commented: “Maybe I’ll have to get back into it now and keep an eye on my son!”
Now that co-star Anne has let the cat out the bag, veteran Neighbours fans are going to be over excited at the prospect of another Kylie-Jason romance.
Kylie, who was  in the hit show from 1986 through till 1988 drew in a record breaking 20 million British viewers when she wed her high-school sweetheart, Scott Robinson, played by Jason Donovan.
Anne, who is starring The Matchmaker Keeping Abreast at Assembly George Square, will be hoping that the anniversary edition is just like old times, as she claims that Neighbours like many of the other soaps, just ain’t what it used to be.
She said: “It’s very different now but things move with the times. The same thing happened with Coronation  Street and Emmerdale.
“They’ve become a lot more adventurous because the days of the old fashioned soap opera where everything could be solved by a cup of tea by the end of the week have gone.
“People want something a little more sensational. I don’t particularly want to watch it now the way its gone but most people do so it has to progress.”

27 Years On…Neighbours Screens Gay Kiss!

It’s taken 27 years for Neighbours to finally embrace the homosexual genre, screening their first ever gay kiss on the show. Watch Chris (James Mason) and Aidan (Bob Morley) share a bit of a pash at a local party…Nothing too heavy… Kudos to the crew at Ramsay Street! I thought about writing something like this when I did my placement with them in 1998… That didn’t hurt a bit did it?

Neighbours Gay Storyline

Susan Bower, producer from Neighbours has spoken with Digital Spy about the upcoming gay storyline for Neighbours. (James Mason) who portrays Chris Pappas will ‘pair up’ with Aidan (Bob Morley) – a first in Neighbours 26 year history. Here are some comments from Susan taken from the interview.

Chris Pappas

…We will treat any romance homosexual or heterosexual in a sensitive G-rated way. It is obvious that at 6.30pm a gay romance is a sensitive issue and for some reason on television it is alright for girls to kiss and experiment with their sexuality but it’s not alright for boys. That is something we are aware of, as annoying or disappointing as it is. We will treat the romance within the character. Chris is a naturally shy person – he is not a person who either flaunts his sexuality or his heart. So it will be done according to that character. And it may not be a full-on relationship. The character that Bob is playing is older and further down the track with his relationship testing, so it will be a relationship story rather than a gay male romance…

Aidan Foster

…We are batting down the hatches because already we have seen in the media letters from viewers and even non-viewers who are less than thrilled. It was incredible that one of the letters said that Bob’s character was a nurse and how cliché was that, however it is counterbalanced that the Chris character is a mechanic so some of them are knee-jerk. We’re not going to please everyone, that is impossible…

Don’t worry Susan, Home and Away, One Life To Live, As The World Turns and now Days of Our Lives have recently just ‘gone there’. A soap first. It only took 45 years to get there…
