theaussieword.com catches up with Greg Gould!
Tell us how it all started. What had you first interested in music? Well, I was in 2nd grade and I brought in “My First Microphone” for show & tell and my teacher said well u can’t just bring that in without giving us a tune! I had no idea I could sing. I thought I was in trouble because she called my parents for a meeting, only to say your son has a talent! Of course the song I sang was What’s Love Got To Do With It! 😂
What motivates or influences you in your quest to make great music? I’m lucky to have a great team at Reservoir Records that allow me to do me, they also allow me to be part of the entire process (which a lot of labels don’t) and genuinely want the music to be great and be utterly me! I’m inspired by the audience! I make music to connect with people. It’s a super special thing!
What are your biggest goals you hope to accomplish as an artist? A Grammy award?? Hehe – id love to be a role model for other LGBTI artists striving to be themselves and be taken seriously as a real artist with real music and real success – oh and play Wembley stadium?! Hehe
Success, what is the secret to it? Being authentic. Working crazy hard. Doing what u can to make a difference.
What has been your biggest career highlight so far? Probably the reaction and impact of my #KeepRunning video online and of course ‘I Want You’ debuting at #6 on dance charts – That had me buzzing for days!!!
Which stars of the music industry do you find inspiring? I adore Cydni Lauper! She’s so real! She’s Fierce! I also really love Emeli Sandé!
The music industry is huge, where do you see yourself a few years from now? Touring – PERFORMING is my favourite way to connect! And making loads more music!
The shape of the music industry has changed significantly over the years, including the use of social media, how do you feel about the industry as a whole and what does it mean to you in getting your records out into the public eye? It’s a Social media world! I try to jump in and jump out tho – making sure I enjoy the moments of life, rather than just checking in on Facebook! But I love the way it allows you to directly connect with your audience and gives you a platform!
Name a few of your favourite Aussie artists. Tina Arena (her performances are stunning and incredibly inspiring), John Farnham (that voice has made me who I am vocally) and Sia (songwriting and style and just boss songs) Hands down!
What can we expect from you in the coming months? Any plans to tour? Yes! Loads of your dates to be announced on my nightclub tour! A new video project and an EP in the works!
Tell us a bit about your latest record, how would you best describe your music? I Want You is a lot of fun! It’s sexy, feel good vibes and a demanding vocal!! It’s been amazing to see people so positive re; my new sound. I feel like I’m finally doing the music that matches my soul.
Do you have any new projects in the pipeline? Yes! An international support tour at the end of the year and the EP is going to keep me very very busy! I also want to keep doing interactive things on social media with my fans! Now that jumping out of a plane is conquered, any other suggestions?!
Thanks for the interview! What final message do you have for us today? If you haven’t checked out my #KeepRunning vid or the new track I Want You on iTunes – jump on my Facebook and connect with me – let me know what u think!
