HOLY HOLY reveal their striking, New York shot video for their single Faces and prepare to bring a swathe of new songs and a new sound to the stage with a national tour throughout November and December.
Directed by Claudia Sangiorgi Dalimore (writer and director of acclaimed film Her Sound Her Story and videos from Mojo Juju, Thelma Plum, Odette) the video has multiple stars – Brooklyn, the rain and a striking and powerful cast. Featuring actor Eka Darville (Jessica Jones, Vampire Diaries) “the clip explores what it is to be human and touches on the beauty and darkness of that experience,” says frontman Tim Carroll.
Long time friend of the band Claudia Sangiorgi Dalimore directed the clip over two days on the manic streets of Brooklyn, New York “I wanted to capture everyday living, the intensity and character of the streets,” says Claudia. “The refreshing thing about NY is you can dance on the streets and no one really batts an eye lid.”
The first bite off their third studio album, Faces, is a fearless left turn and unlike anything you have heard from the union of Tim Carroll and Oscar Dawson. From the first listen, the opening vocal hook drags you by the ears through an experimental mini-epic.
Produced by HOLY HOLY and mixed by Rich Costey (Arctic Monkeys, Chvrches, Muse, HAIM, Franz Ferdinand), Faces sees HOLY HOLY moving away from their trademark solos and riffs in favour of sampled vocal loops and programmed synth bass lines, on top of layers of live and programmed beats. Ainslie Wills and Ali Barter add their vocal colour to the main motif and Japanese Wallpaper provides his trademark synths and tonal vision to the track.
Faces is the first new music from Holy Holy since the release of their critically acclaimed second studio album Paint. The album debuted at #7 on the ARIA album chart in February 2017 and spurred the #1 most played track at triple j and International Songwriting Competition finalist, Darwinism, and fourth single True Lovers landed at #40 in the triple j hottest 100 this year. Following the release, HOLY HOLY performed two national headline tours and sets at Bluesfest, Yours and Owls, Festival of the Sun, Woodford Folk Festival, Secret Garden, The Drop and Party in the Paddock. They have also captured the attention of global tastemakers with sold out shows in London and performances at Primavera, The Great Escape, Reeperbahn, Dot to Dot, Liverpool Music Week and London Calling.
Faces illustrates HOLY HOLY’s continued stylistic and musical evolution and is a tantalising glimpse of the new LP due for release in 2019.
