New Music: Lester The Fierce ‘January’

Melbourne ‘Ghost Pop’ artist, Lester The Fierce has announced the release of her new single, January set for release on April 14, alongside a show at The Grace Darling (Melbourne) on April 5 and Caravan Music Club (Oakleigh) on April 13.
Lifted from her self-titled EP released late last year, January is a dreamy indie pop track, channeling a beautiful and sad desire. Its soft and exquisite melody, coupled with the track’s hypnotic “la la la’s” perfectly contrasts the lyrics, which describe a one-night stand.
The inspiration behind January Lester says “(The song) is the story of a one night stand- but more specifically, that feeling of an empty physical connection when you’re out of love.  So many people have strange expectations of love and because of that they stray into small flings and flippant sex and feel emptier than before.”

Directing and editing the clip herself, Lester was keen for the video to take on the life of the lyrics “I wanted to create a video that was emotive and visually interesting enough to carry itself, but abstract enough to let the story come through. I feel that the song has underlining psychedelic tones and the kaleidoscopic effect compliments that.
Keeping busy on the national touring circuit, Lester The Fierce recently supported Ngaiire on her ‘Lamentations’ tour, Stonefield on their extensive regional tour and has just finished up on Ed Kowalczyk’s 20th anniversary Throwing Copper tour last month.
Talking fondly about her life in music, Lester says, “The last six months have been a huge change.  I’ve toured in places I never expected I’d play in so soon.  The best thing about touring with such big artists, are the lessons you pick up along the way.”

Lester The Fierce is a combination of Anita Lester and her alter ego imagined from a children’s book hero.  The prolific singer songwriter manages to touch on everything in her songs from love, sex, death and the weather.
