NEW MUSIC: Jessica Says ‘Fairest Of Them All’

Chapter is pleased to announce Melbourne pop-noir artiste Jessica Says will release her long-overdue second album Do With Me What U Will on vinyl and digital in early 2017.

Dreamy first single Fairest Of Them All is released today. The song was produced by Melbourne electronic auteur Darcy Baylis and recorded by Jessica’s longtime collaborator Geoffrey O’Connor.

Of the new single, Jessica says – “Fairest Of them All” is about being a girl just out of high school, when you are at your most beautiful and also your most insecure, and how vulnerable that makes you in encounters with predatory older men.”

“It’s also about ageing, about not being a babygirl or a Lolita girl anymore, and how we seem to never inhabit our own youth, our ‘prime’ or our ‘peaking’. Even a twenty one year old can feel spoilt, weathered, when our identities are constructed on sexual desirability.”

Jessica’s debut album We Need To Talk was released in 2009, but the following year Jessica fractured her spine and pelvis falling from a first-floor hotel window. Inspired by the treatment during her two month recovery in hospital, Jessica studied to become a nurse, and now works in a Melbourne hospital. Do With Me What U Will is Jessica’s first new album since her recovery.

Aside from Darcy Baylis and Geoffrey O’Connor, the new album also features production from Travis Cook of Collarbones.

Do With Me What U Will is coming out on vinyl and digital on Chapter Music in early 2017.
