New Music: Corbu ‘Battles’

New York’s Corbu have unveiled the stunning animated video for their single ‘Battles’. A soaring odyssey, the video hints at the album’s narrative whilst reflecting the songs shimmering melodies. Devised by the band and directed and animated by Daniel Corderro the video is a glimpse into Corbu’s vision, which will reveal itself on the release of the debut album Crayon Soul, out August 5th via 3Beat (UK/EU) & Big Picnic (US). Corbu’s Jonathan Graves says: “Crayon Soul is a movie in our heads, not just an album. This video is a scene from it. Every piece of artwork we make is a snapshot from it. Nothing you see is in order as far as the story, but it’s more fun that way. You have to put the pieces together yourself.”

‘Battles’ was recently premiered by Zane Lowe on Beats 1 and has also received airplay from Radio X’s John Kennedy. A glistening dream-pop anthem, ‘Battles’ is both delicate and towering, with its gaze directed toward the stars. Inspired by Warp records stalwarts, sci-fi imagery and psychedelia through the ages, Corbu are a true creative force. The band have recently hosted the first of their own ‘Summer Triangle’ parties in New York, which will continue on the last Thursday of each summer month at Wise Men, 355 Bowery. Crayon Soul is produced by Corbu and mixed by Dave Fridmann (Tame Impala, MGMT, The Flaming Lips. It follows two acclaimed EPs, We Are Sound and Everything You Imagine Is Real, which garnered praise from the likes of NYLON, Stereogum, The Guardian, NME and more, as well as capturing the attention of Jessie Ware, who personally requested the band to remix her song ‘You & I (Forever)’.
