The Melbourne Football Club withstood weeks of scrutiny and media pressure to register a famous victory against all odds. The Demons, who held on for four quarters, played some gutsy football on a wet and slippery MCG to nail the thrilling 6 point victory against the much more fancied and top of the ladder Essendon. Melbourne supporters rose as one with under 15 seconds remaining on the time clock, the countdown from supporters mirrored that of the old days of VFL, cheering and singing the club song, the first for season 2012. The MCG was alight with the red and blue army vocal, the cheers deafening with the crowd of 42,987 sounding like a mass of 100,000 at the final siren. The Dees had come to play, a stage that was well and truly set for a Saturday night spectacular – the Demons were off the bottom of the ladder. Players high-fived supporters, the die-hard red and blue member faithful standing by the fence to cheer their football club…. An amazing match. TheAussieWord is still in recovery mode. Next week, the Dees take on the Magpies at the MCG on the Queens Birthday Monday blockbuster… We’ll just take it one week at a time, last night may have just kick started our season. Go Dees!
