Exclusive Special Interview: Prinnie

theaussieword.com meets up with Prinnie for a special exclusive interview!

Where did it all begin? What had you first interested in music?
It all started for me as a young child. I just loved to sing and dance, my family couldn’t shut me up! I would make noise at the dinner table, sing in the car, and they had to get me out of the house and exerting some sort of energy. Noone in my family was musical, so it really just came from me. I was obsessed with Whitney Houston and Janet Jackson and anytime there was an award show on I would be glued to the television! I sang and danced from a very young age and did talent quests, shows at local malls and anything that would let me perform, all from the age of about 8. And I literally have never stopped.
What motivates or influences you in the quest to make great music?
Im motivated by the young child I use to be. Being a young Tongan girl I felt very much like what i wanted to be and what people thought I would be, were two very different things. I felt constricted by the stereotypes that surrounded me, and I now work really close with a lot of young adults to help them with that. I work with a charity MMAD that assist young trouble teens in their every day struggles. Help them too work through the stereotypes that they feel are on them, and we all have them. I work really hard to fight them even now!

What can we expect from you in the coming months?? will you be touring?
Well I have just come off TheVoice Tour so I don’t think I’ll be going on the road any time soon, but later in the year I would love to tour the country, once people get to know the EP a little better. I love touring. I love being in new cities and getting out and exploring places. Im never one to just sit up in a hotel room and let the day pass me by.

Tell us a bit about your latest album and how would you best describe your music?
The best way to describe my music is, Urban Pop. There are elements of RnB, Soul, HipHop and of course POP! The EP One Night is a small insight to my life. It speaks on my life experiences and where I have been. MT – is based on a relationship that i realised had no substance, I compared it to a car and its fuel tank, and released we were “running on empty” (MT). One night is the leading single off the EP and its about a long distance relationship and making the most of the time you spend together.

Success, what is the secret to it?
I think the secret to success  is to doing what makes you happy, cause this will last a lifetime. When you feel forced into things, and not doing things from the heart, it never lasts. What do they say?? Do what you love and never work a day in your life. And this can be anything.. maybe arranging furniture is what you love, maybe helping the elderly is what you love, maybe teaching is what you love? there is no formula, just do what makes you happy. Thats what i say!

What has been your biggest career highlight?
Thats a hard one? I would have to say releasing my EP. It represents so much! The years and years of hard work, sweat and tears. Its a really hard industry this one, and it takes a lot to get through it. This EP feels like one of my children, and it takes a village to raise a child. I certainly have not done it alone! I would not be able to do what i do without my amazing family and partner who are there for me on a daily basis. When I held that cd in my hand, it was just amazing and I can’t wait to hear the tracks on the radio soon 🙂

Which star of the music industry do you find inspiring?
Beyonce. She is a mum, a pop star, an entrepreneur and much much more. She is always improving and always getting better. I love the way her live shows go beyond what people expect. She gives everything to her audience and always puts on an amazing show. She is always pushing the boundaries musically and at the same time holds together a relationship and a child. Amazing!!

Any new projects in the pipeline??
Yes i have a jewellery line that I’m launching soon. Zirah By Prinnie. Its an urban jewellery line, i have always found it hard to find jewellery that I like. I wear loud, chunky jewellery especially on stage, so i decided to do my own 🙂 Cant wait for everyone to see it;)

The music industry is huge, where do you see yourself a fw years from now?
I have always had a career in the states, I was signed in New York for 4 yrs and i intend on returning soon. I see myself having a healthy career both here and the US. My dream is to chase the summers! LOL

Name a few of your favourite artists.
Rihanna, Katy Perry, Rita Ora, Drake, Future, Justin Beiber & Chris Brown

The shape of the music industry has changed significantly over the years, including the use of social media, how do you feel about the industry as a whole and what does it mean to you in getting your records out into the public eye?
Social Media is everything right now, and the paps and gossip columns rule. Its unfortunate because it takes away from the music. Back in the day musicians were only in the paper about music, now that is usually the last thing were quoted on. I hope that this will pass soon, and we will get back to the music. For now, I’ll keep my head down, stay out of trouble and let my music do the talking 🙂

What Final message do you have for us today??
Sure! Please go out and get the EP.. spend some time to really listen, turn it up LOUD, get lost in the music and get to know me a little better. And please, reach out via social media , say hi! Let me know what you think! 🙂 xxx Prinnie
