theaussieword.com speaks exclusively with Louis Baker.Give us an introduction. How did it all begin? What had you first interested in music?
Music and I met at a young age. I have vivid memories of dancing to Michael Jackson, and singing along to songs off Sgt. Peppers. Slowly but surely my interest in playing music came to fruition by firstly picking up the guitar and being taught some chords by my sister and mum when I was 11ish. The singing came later on when I lost some of the shyness. Music has always been the most moving art form to me.
What motivates or influences you in your quest to make great music?
Although it is difficult to stay driven at times, there are some key tools that really help me. I try to read something new everyday, and that may be some poetry or the news, I like to listen to something new and fresh, and Lastly, one of the most important things that stimulates and focus’ my creativity is the people I surround myself with. Motivation is like the waxing and waning of the moon.
What are your biggest goals you hope to accomplish as an artist?
I wish to share my music with the world. If this means I have to do years of touring, show after show, night after night, then I am prepared to do that. In the last year or so I have been back to the UK 5 times. Each experience has given me a reason to go back because of the special opportunities that present themselves, so hopefully this positive forward momentum is perpetual.
What can we expect from you in the coming months? Any plans to tour?I am currently on tour and in Brighton doing this Q & A (Thanks for having me again by the way – www.theaussieword.com). Yesterday I played three shows for The Great Escape, so a bit shattered today, and tomorrow I head off with my manager to play solo shows in England, Netherlands, Switzerland and Germany. I am mostly excited about Liverpool Sound City and Berlin Festival.
Tell us a bit about your latest album and how would you best describe your music?
The most recent body of songs that I have been working on is sonically acoustic, emotive and soul.
Success, what is the secret to it?
Perseverance and experience.
What has been your biggest career highlight?
The Red Bull Music Academy was pretty special, and I also loved Sziget Festival.
Which stars of the music industry do you find inspiring?
Any new projects in the pipeline?Recording in Red Bull Studios London with my friend Brad Baloo from The Nextmen.
The music industry is huge, where do you see yourself a few years from now?
I see myself doing what I am doing now but on a larger scale. Playing shows to more people.

Tame Impala, Gotye, ACDC, Nick Cave, Jimmy Barnes, John Butler & Hiatus Kaiyote.
The shape of the music industry has changed significantly over the years, including the use of social media, how do you feel about the industry as a whole and what does it mean to you in getting your records out into the public eye?
No matter what field or industry you find yourself in, there are always changes. Perhaps, for example, physical sales are not as relevant as they once were, but what will always be relevant is music. It is important to maintain faith in your chosen direction, and seek advice from those who are experienced.
