Exclusive Special Interview: The Potbelleez!

theaussieword.com meets with The Potbelleez in this exclusive very special blog interview!

What can you tell our readers about The Potbelleez? How and where did it all begin?
We are a high octane three piece international electronic music dance group. We met about 7 years ago and have been lashing it live and in the studio ever since. For more explicit but probably dry details feel free to consult  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Potbelleez

What had you first interested in music?
Music was every where around me growing up. My parents treated it as just as important as sports or maths or languages. It is part of my blood and soul.

Who motivates or influences your quest to make great music?
People and stories and I have an undying hunger for getting out what’s inside. Then expressing it in ways unexpected.

Do you have any planned tours coming up?
We are always on the go. But we are touring all over Australia before the end of the year and also heading to America.

What are some of your biggest goals you hope to accomplish as an artist?
To always be honest as a song writer and performer. Not to write things because they are fashionable but by observing and interpreting what is actually going on inside me and those I relate to.

What can fans expect from you in the coming months?
We have an EP coming out in two months, lots of party mixes going to radio and massive collaborations.

Success, what is the secret to it and what has been your biggest career highlight  for The Potbelleez so far?
Success is probably just happiness. I’m really over the moon with the way things are going. We have been on this road together for about 7 years and it is still an amazing feeling every time we get up on stage or come out of the studio. The biggest career highlight was getting arrested cross dressing in Japan.

Which stars of the music industry do you find inspiring?
The ones that are not afraid to embrace their ugly side. Its too easy to sugar coat the world. The real stars are those who tell it how it is. I love James Blake right now. He has direct access. Also John Newman, Drake, Imagine Dragons, Lorde… So many.

How would you best describe you and your music to your fans?
I am a smart arse but am learning to curb my indulgent madness. I do that through our music which is high, melodic, explosive, hands in the air, singalong, classic dance music.

What can you tell us about your latest album?
Our next release is an EP. It will have about 6 tracks on it that will be strictly suitable for parties purposes only.

Are there any new exciting projects in the works?
We have been collaborating with great artists like Kaz James and Bombs Away. Also with crazy cats in the USA like Audiobot and Poet from the Black Eyed Peas. They will all feature on our EP.

Where would you like to see The Potbelleez a few years from now?
In awesome cars with surfboards on the roof, pets, kids, driving up the Californian coast. Writing and playing. Maybe nurturing some other artists.

Name a few of your favourite Aussie artists.
INXS, Nick Cave, John Butler, Wolfmother, Ricki Lee, The Alcohotlicks, Silverchair, Jess Mauboy, You am I, Juice, Skunkhour….

The shape of the music industry has changed significantly over the years, including the use of social media, how do you feel about the industry as a whole and what does it mean to you in getting your records out into the public eye?
I think its always been tricky. You need a great team around you. Its not all about the music BUT a brilliant song is where it starts. Then you can’t be scared to ask favours. The tools are all around you.

Thank you for the interview! What can you leave fans of theaussieword.com with here today? BE YOU. DO GOOD.
