EXCLUSIVE SPECIAL INTERVIEW | Mischief

theaussieword.com catches up with new pop Aussie girlgroup Mischief!

Give us an introduction. How did it all begin? What had you first interested in music?
We are Mischief, a brand new Australian girl group.  We met 2 years ago and have just released our first song to radio, Kick It Back!  We come from such different backgrounds but we all love pop music and each one of us bring something individual to our songs. Introducing the group; Nicole Blair (20) Eesha Hunjon (21) Chevonne Nel (18 – just!!) and Rachael Steel (19).

What motivates or influences you in your quest to make great music?
Our number 1 goal is to write and perform songs that make people smile and feel great on the inside!  We hope our songs become beautiful music postcards of people’s best memories.  That would be awesome.

What are your biggest goals you hope to accomplish as an artist?

  •  To colour the world beautiful
  •  To be inspired by other artists
  •  To never forget that music is for everyone out there (it’s not about us)

What can we expect from you in the coming months? Any plans to tour?

We are about to go into studio to record our next single so watch this space! We are an independent group so it’s great to get support from amazing producers like Stuart Stuart (Sheppard, The Veronicas).

Tell us a bit about your latest album and how would you best describe your music?
Kick it Back is our very first single to radio.  The Music Network said:  “It has Teen Anthem plastered all over it”.  It’s a super catchy pop song with sassy percussion and bass driven verses and a huge shout out chorus. Chevonne rocks out a really cool breakdown too!

Success, what is the secret to it?
Well, success is really subjective isn’t it?  We think you have to believe you can be successful before you can even get close to actually achieving it.   It’s a state of mind.

What has been your biggest career highlight?
Getting national radio play for our very first song – that’s really cool and there are so many great moments coming.

Which stars of the music industry do you find inspiring?
Taylor Swift has achieved so much – very, very clever and talented woman.  Katy Perry is so much fun… we love her!! But we are most inspired by the amazing Australian artists killing it out there in the big wide world.  Jarryd James, Sheppard, Grace and Conrad and they are all from Brisbane too!

Any new projects in the pipeline?
We are going to keep recording songs and share them with as many people as we can.

The music industry is huge, where do you see yourself a few years from now?

We believe there is a place for us on the global music scene connecting to young people everywhere and bringing a fresh new soundtrack for a whole new generation.

Name a few of your favourite Aussie artists.
Everyone above plus of course the incredible Gotye, Sia and 5 Seconds of Summer are heaps of fun too.

The shape of the music industry has changed significantly over the years, including the use of social media, how do you feel about the industry as a whole and what does it mean to you in getting your records out into the public eye?
It’s like we are part of this amazing music revolution. So many artists are getting a chance to be heard and that is about as exciting as it gets.  It’s global and we think music will play a massive role in connecting the next generation like never before! Sure it might be harder to make money but making a difference is priceless too!

Thanks for the interview! What final message do you have for us today?
Thanks to Brian and The Aussie Word for supporting Australian music!
