For a great value day out with family and friend, there’s nothing like the Royal Melbourne Show, Saturday 21 September – Wednesday 2 October at the Melbourne Showgrounds.

History
With heaps of free activities and entertainment, there’s nothing like the value of the Royal Melbourne Show. Animals and livestock, award winning food and wine, arts and crafts, carnival rides, showbags, free live entertainment, spectacular fireworks and much more. Bringing the best of the country to the city, for sheer fun, discovery and wonder, there’s nothing like the Royal Melbourne Show.
The Show has been a signature event in Melbourne since 1848, when it started as a ploughing competition in Moonee Ponds. Organised by the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV), the show is Victoria’s largest and longest running annual public entertainment event with 2013 being the 158th Show. It is iconic in its own right, attracting half a million visitors each year.
While there is no doubt the Show has grown with the times, expanding to 12 days and nights jam-packed with non-stop entertainment and activities, it still remains the connection with the land featuring some of the largest and more prestigious exhibitions of animals and rural life in the Southern Hemisphere.
The Show provides patrons with a chance to experience the very best Victoria has to offer in agricultural competitions and displays, rural lifestyle, leisure activities, entertainment, food, wine, horticulture, showbags, rides and more.
