NEW MUSIC | Animaux ‘Come On Over’

Melbourne seven-piece, Animaux, have released a new single ‘Come On Over’. To celebrate the release, the band have announced an east coast tour this August.

Following an incredible response to the release of their 2013 EP Vale St, Animaux have continued their rise as one of Melbourne’s most talked about live acts.

‘Come On Over’ showcases the band’s evolving versatility, with the infectious instrumental hooks and the vocal range journey it takes you on. When asked about the lyrics, songwriter and saxophone player Ollie explains “I guess it’s about the fine line between giving too much, and losing sight of what you love about yourself, and recognizing your weaknesses, and compromising.”

Having started out as a bunch of baby-faced high schoolers with floppy haircuts, playing their own brand of funky pop music week in, week out at their now infamous Evelyn Hotel (Fitzroy) residencies, the massive act has matured into a staple of the Melbourne and broader Australian live music scene.

They’ve continue to push themselves as performers, musicians and songwriters, while still maintaining their signature sound that “you can’t quite put your finger on”. They’ve earned their stripes sharing the stage with the likes of The Cat Empire and smashing out tunes with producer John Castle in the studio. The only way is up.

The collaborative nature of Animaux shines through both on and off the stage. Raucous live performances that shatter pint glasses and facilitate random hook ups in the crowd are a tribute to the raw energy emitted by the septet. Meanwhile, behind closed studio doors, having seven creative minds at work sees the band keeping listeners guessing what’s next.

Animaux; it’s French for “Animals”.
