Special Interview: The Hiding

The Hiding

theaussieword.com speaks exclusively with Anthony Salce from Melbourne group The Hiding.

Tell us how it all started. What had you first interested in music? Johnny be good (back to the future one) I even have a red guitar I play live. That’s what made me want to start performing as a front man with a guitar in a band. What makes me continue? I love the business side of the industry but I love the friendship that comes from touring and rehearsing with your best mates. Not all memories are good, we have had some tough times, but the good that came from it is the memory of the support we all had for one another. Don’t get me wrong we are also known to kick each other while one is down (in the most humble humorous way), you never want to drop your guard especially if Ryan and Anthony are nearby, the love a practical joke. What keeps us going or interested? I love making memories through music that no 9-5 job can generate.

What motivates or influences you in your quest to make great music? I really enjoy writing music, finding a really unique way to describe an emotion or experience. A unique way of telling a story in a particular way that no one else has ever said it. This brings me so much joy. When I finally deliver that message I cant wait to see everyone’s reaction especially if I wrote it for that person. I really want people to relate to my stories and want to share it with the world.

What are your biggest goals you hope to accomplish as an artist? I would love to have a strong presence in the top ten, and be able to sustain a stadium tour internationally. Have a solid sync and licensing career in film and TV through music. Build enough of a presence where I could then mentor up and coming artists and set up my own grant program to assist and help emerging artists. Also somehow having my music help reduce animal cruelty.

Success, what is the secret to it? Having the strength and courage to still persist and keep taking steps forward no matter who encourages the opposite. Challenge yourself and be excited of the outcome. If you keep learning and growing you are always succeeding.

What has been your biggest career highlight so far? There are probably 3 for me. • We were accepted on the festival lineup at CMJ New York. • Being part of a sold out event at The Forum in Melbourne. • Supporting Steel Panther in LA. Which stars of the music industry do you find inspiring? Any artist that has a melody that has stood the test of time. An artist or industry leader that can leave a positivCard Sleeve V2.aie legacy for future leaders to follow i.e Ian Molly Meldrum, Bon Jovi even some of the buskers I saw in a NYC subway doing what they love. Inspiration can grab your attention in many forms.

The music industry is huge, where do you see yourself a few years from now? I am hoping to have a large online presence on youtube, spotify and soudcloud, touring annually, and having a good sync and licensing presence in USA film and television. I also want to have collaborated with other artist and share the music experience with others.

The shape of the music industry has changed significantly over the years, including the use of social media, how do you feel about the industry as a whole and what does it mean to you in getting your records out into the public eye? It has so many pro’s and con’s. I love that you can be discovered all around the world. Social media has been a great way to expose music to people whom otherwise could never of heard you without large label marketing budgets. I guess there is so much saturation now it’s hard to break through all the content that’s available.

Name a few of your favourite Aussie artists. Godwolf, Goldfields, Gang of youths,

The Hiding 2What can we expect from you in the coming months? Any plans to tour? We have a few boutique shows being • April 29th Rifle Brigade Hotel Bendigo, • May 6rh The Mynt Lounge Werribee • May 21st Revolver which is a double headline show with Jack and The Kids

Tell us a bit about your latest record, how would you best describe your music? Its changed a little, I guess evolved into an acoustic/folk edm vibe. Some fans have described it as road trip summer session vibe. A percussive/finger picking style of playing guitar with a fun exciting beat behind it.

Do you have any new projects in the pipeline? Yup. Two more singles, a video clip, and some re-mix versions of our songs, and some interstate shows.

Thanks for the interview! What final message do you have for us today? Every time something good happens to you or to a friend say Karma my life and help spread positive vibes.
