SPECIAL INTERVIEW: Nadisko

Nadisko Pondering

theaussieword.com’s special interview with Aussie duo Nadisko.

Give us an introduction. How did it all begin? What had you first interested in music?

Alex had been making electronic music since he was 12 years old and ran a few parties in his early twenties. He met Blake’s sister through University and we struck up a friendship. It was through this and a joint love of electronica that we made our first three songs, popping them up on a Myspace page. We were contacted to play a DJ set a few weeks after!

What motivates or influences you in your quest to make great music?

We find enjoyment in creating something that people will enjoy. We believe music should be able to transport you somewhere else or give you goosebumps. There’s nothing else like it!

What are your biggest goals you hope to accomplish as an artist?

To accurately convey how we are feeling through our music, without outside forces and remain objective in that quest. We both generate ideas and enhance our concepts equally to achieve this. Music is a constantly evolving entity that’s an exciting part of artistic expression.

What can we expect from you in the coming months? Any plans to tour?

Another single hopefully before the end of the year! We are working on our live set and building up our arsenal of equipment to perform. At the moment it is DJ sets!

Tell us a bit about your latest single and how would you best describe your music?

Our latest release is named ‘Take Me Away’, a single that has dreamy summer vibes with soft vocals and a sultry guitar riff. It was made with Summer in mind, the sunshine and beaches that  make the Aussie shoreline. Under that initial meaning lies a longing to be rescued by a significant other or close confidant to enjoy the sunshine with.

Success, what is the secret to it?

Skill, determination and a music business mind. It’s becoming increasingly important for artists to have a decent understanding of how the music industry works, as not being reimbursed for your work sucks badly! Finding the right people for your sound and to support it is invaluable. Many artists ask us ‘Here’s a song, what do I do now?’.

What has been your biggest career highlight?

Probably the tour of Mexico or playing in Italy and Germany. When touring you are constantly meeting new people from other countries, it reinforces the fact that music really is universal and can reach people all over the world!

Which stars of the music industry do you find inspiring?

Tontario, B.Traits, John Hopkins, Christian Löffler, HVOB, Sebastian Paul.

Any new projects in the pipeline?

We are working with a few singers at the moment, in particular and artist named ‘Henning’ who has an incredible voice. Her song ‘With You’ blew us away! It will probably be released in November sometime.

The music industry is huge, where do you see yourself a few years from now?

We will still be making music, playing live and playing the odd DJ set every so often!

Name a few of your favourite Aussie artists.

Flume (aka peach boi), Children Collide, Hermitude, DMA’s  and The Avalanches.

The shape of the music industry has changed significantly over the years, including the use of social media, how do you feel about the industry as a whole and what does it mean to you in getting your records out into the public eye?

Having enjoyed the much more organic time period of ‘the Myspace days’ it’s definitely a learning curve to be across all the different streaming platforms, news sites and music stores. It’s been interesting to see a slight shift away from Facebook and onto Instagram recently.  Understanding ‘reach algorithms’, ‘like for like’ or directly inboxing people to ask them to share your music are all marketing know-hows that are pretty tough for artists to get right if they don’t have that knowledge. The ‘Instagram-Model-DJ’ vibe is literally sound pollution clouding an already saturated marketplace.

Thanks for the interview! What final message do you have for us today?

A quote we apply to music creation and DJ sets alike, unsure who said it first though!

‘A mix is never finished, it is only surrendered.’
