Special Interview: Lucy Whittaker

Lucy Whittaker speaks to theaussieword.com for a very special interview.
Give us an introduction. How did it all begin? What had you first interested in music?
Music is so exciting to me. It’s always been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a teenager I realized that I wanted to make music my career so put all my energy into it. I met my team, worked hard, and now I’m launching my debut single, ‘Change Your Mind’.
What motivates or influences you in your quest to make great music?
For me, it’s all about the feeling. If I’m writing music which takes me to a different emotional place, I know I’m onto something and I’m motivated to carry on working. If it feels right inside, go for it.
What are your biggest goals you hope to accomplish as an artist?
Ultimately, I want to make people feel something through my music. If I can achieve that, I’ll be a happy girl.

What can we expect from you in the coming months? Any plans to tour?
My team and I are working on the second single right now! It’s just been written and is just about to head into production. I’m also getting prepared to resume gigging in the UK with my live band. Keep an eye on my Facebook page for details.
Tell us a bit about your latest single and how would you best describe your music?
I describe my music as straight pop, and I’m proud of it!
Change Your Mind focuses on a relationship where one person has cheated on the other and is now desperately trying to fix things, and recapture what they had before.
Success, what is the secret to it?
Dedication, discipline, and drive.
What has been your biggest career highlight?
Releasing my first single! It’s been such an exciting experience, and I can’t wait to continue the hard work and keep moving forwards.
Which stars of the music industry do you find inspiring?
I’m a huge fan of Lady Gaga – as well as creating (what I believe to be) incredible pop music, she stands up for what she believes in and I have so much respect for that. I can’t wait for Rihanna to drop her new album. I think everybody’s expecting big things and I know we won’t be disappointed.
Any new projects in the pipeline?
I’ve just finished writing the second single and it’s just about to go into production. I’m also really excited to be heading to New York in May to shoot my music video- it’s going to be amazing to shoot in such a crazy city.
The music industry is huge, where do you see yourself a few years from now?
Working hard with my team, enjoying life, and trying to make the best pop music I can.
Name a few of your favourite Aussie artists.
Sia is amazing. I think her songwriting is phenomenal and as a result she’s made such a massive impact on the charts worldwide. And everybody loves a bit of Kylie! I was lucky enough to meet her touring band recently, and learnt so much from them.
The shape of the music industry has changed significantly over the years, including the use of social media, how do you feel about the industry as a whole and what does it mean to you in getting your records out into the public eye?
Personally I think the rise of social media is fantastic for artists. With the click of a button, the whole world can enjoy your music. It’s such an exciting prospect and the opportunities to progress are endless.
Thanks for the interview! What final message do you have for us today?
Thankyou for your support with Change Your mind. Maybe an Australian tour will be on the cards one day!
