SPECIAL INTERVIEW: Jake Davey

theaussieword.com special interview with Jake Davey.

How and where did it all begin for you? What drew your interest to the music industry? I started playing guitar at the age of 6 and my passion and interest for the music industry developed each year from then on.

What motivates or influences you in your quest to make great music? My fellow musicians are the biggest influence, always pushing the boundaries musically and challenging me to be better.

What are your biggest goals you hope to accomplish as an artist? I’d love to eventually tour alongside heavyweight artists whether that be in Aus or the US.

What can we expect from you in the coming months? Any plans to tour? Always touring! And if I’m not, I’m planning to. Chelsea Berman and I are currently organising a duo acoustic tour along the east coast for 2020, stay tuned.

Tell us a bit about your latest release and how would you best describe your music? On Your Mind is the first step towards the new chapter for my own sound. Delving more so into Country pop, this single tells a story of just how important communication is for a relationship.

Give us an insight into your creative process. What gets you writing songs? I run my own studio Monday to Friday so inspiration is never really far away. But I like to demo the songs up quickly and listen back, that inspires me.

Is there a hidden meaning in any of your music? Good times, good vibes! Keeping it simple.

Success, what is the secret to it? Surround yourself with good people and work hard, you’ll find success.

What has been your biggest career highlight so far? I recently played Country At The Beach which was Co Headlined by Travis Collins and The Wolfe Brothers, over 1500 people showed up for the party!

Which stars of the music industry do you find inspiring? Travis Collins, Morgan Evans, Old Dominion are just a few of the artists I look up to for inspiration.

Are there any new projects in the pipeline? I’m always writing, collaborating etc 2020 is the year of the singles!

The music industry is huge, where do you see yourself a few years from now? I’d love to frequent Nashville to further network with likeminded people. My creativity skyrockets when I’m around the right musicians.

What is your favourite and least favourite part about this line of work and why? Long, long days. Relentless and countless hours are spent on this craft. I do love it but it’s important to know when to take a break, hence why I’m going to be visiting Nashville next year!

Name a few of your favourite Australian artists. The Wolfe Brothers, Viper Creek Band, Travis Collins, Hurricane Fall

The shape of the music industry has changed significantly over the years, including the use of social media, how do you feel about the industry as a whole and what does it mean to you in getting your records out into the public eye? Social media is the key to marketing your music. We can reach thousands of people from our phones, that’s insane! Spotify/ Apple music have both been game changers, our music is more accessible than ever before.

How do you plan on cracking the international market? Write better songs, tour more frequently and continue to build relationships between fellow artists and fans.

Do you collaborate with others? Who is on your wish-list? All the time! I’d love to write a song with Morgan Evans.

What advice do you give for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps? Never give up, no matter how hard it may seem some days, it’ll all be worth it.

A message for your fans. How do you best interact and respond with your fans? I’d say Instagram is my go to!
