Special Interview: AUGUSTE

theaussieword.com catches up with Beth Keough from AUGUST.

Tell us how it all started. What had you first interested in music? Skye and I first met when we were kids, we had both taken an interest and singi12967287_1727721737445932_3618430547838830484_ong and songwriting and gradually it just kind of made sense for us to start collaborating! We are both really creative people in a lot of ways and our families are quite musical too.

What motivates or influences you in your quest to make great music? Just the idea that you can always be better at what you’re doing, and also that music can be used as a platform for expressing ideas and effecting change. If you are great at what you do then people will pay attention. Also, idols who are smashing it in the industry are good for inspo too…

What are your biggest goals you hope to accomplish as an artist? Longevity! – The music industry is pretty fickle, so to have a career that continues and the opprtunity to continue to produce good music, that’s the goal really. A hit song would be cool too 😉

Success, what is the secret to it? Haha – can you tell me?! … I would say hard work; optimism and perserverance are key ingredients.

What has been your biggest career highlight so far? In our previous band we played Glastonbury 2014 – that was a life highlight!

Which stars of the music industry do you find inspiring? Someone I’ve found interesting and inspiring to follow in recent years is Amanda Palmer, she published a book recently, which is all about how to ask for support from other people as an artist! She’s pretty fearless and inspiring, as a businesswoman and a musician/creative.

The music industry is huge, where do you see yourself a few years from now? Hopefully rockin’ it at a cool festival somewhere…. and writing good music….

The shape of the music industry has changed significantly over the years, including the use of social media, how do you feel about the industry as a whole and what does it mean to you in getting your records out into the public eye? It makes life easy and hard for musicians in different ways I think. At the end of the day people all around the world are able to listen to and share our music so easily online and that’s really exciting! The music industry is also more competitive because it is flooded, that is sort of motivating, it makes you constantly strive to be better and more original – I think that’s a positive! The down side is it can be really hard to make a living for some, and so it can be hard to focus all of the energy that you want to into music.

Name a few of your favourite Aussie artists. Montgomery, Gang of Youths, Bad//Dreems, Hard Aches, Eves the Behavior…. There are so many!

What can we expect from you in the coming months? Any plans to tour? Yes so excited! We have some tour dates over the next few months – best you check out our website to stay up to date with shows.

Tell us a bit about your latest record, how would you best describe your music? Electronic pop, ethereal, broody vocals

Do you have any new projects in the pipeline? We do 🙂 – a new single release coming up soon with an exciting new collab.

Thanks for the interview! What final message do you have for us today? Listen more – in every aspect of what you do!
