Melbourne based singer-songwriter Mani Blu announces the release of his debut single ‘Turn Off The Radio’, a striking, grand new release, effortlessly fusing synth-pop influences with a modern flavour. The ballad draws influence from David Bowie’s ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and Spiders from Mars’ while Blü’s style as a whole seeks to encompass Warholian Pop Culture that is rarely seen in today’s music. “I wrote ‘Turn Off The Radio’ in about 40 minutes when I was just 19, the idea of the song was so strong for me” says Mani on the single. “The song is a double entendre for mental health and toxic love, for me ‘radio’ represents a transmission, a signal from one person into outer space, and ending up at the receiver, but all I wanted to do was cut those signals off” ‘Turn Off The Radio’ is a twisted love story that drips with an emotion and rawness unique to Mani Blü, introducing him in the most emphatic way possible.Continue reading

Melbourne singer/songwriter Michael Burrows catches up with theaussieword.com.
Give us an introduction. How did it all begin? What had you first interested in music? I grew up in a musical family where every year my mother would put on variety style shows where we all had to perform. She’d invite friends and a wider circle we didn’t know so we learnt quickly how to put on a performance. My cousins were all classically trained, and my brother and I could harmonise well. I had exposure from a young age to the Beatles but also quirky Australian artists like Slim Dusty, Chad Morgan and Rolf Harris who were actually really great hook-based songwriters.
theaussieword.com meets The White Wolves.
Sannia stops by theaussieword.com for a special interview.
Give us an introduction. How did it all begin? What had you first interested in music? If my mum were here she’d tell you I was an uncomfortable active foetus whenever she played music in the car; I’ve always been obsessed with music and sound. I started piano lessons when I was four and for a long time that was the path I thought I would go down – classical pianist and composer, around fifteen I quit piano and took up singing because I just really felt the need to express myself even further, I was really drawn to poetry and lyrics and started writing my own songs and haven’t really looked back since.Continue reading

The brand new single from our good friend Michaela May is here!
Michaela May ~ “Hook, Line & Sinker” is a song about falling in love. I’ve always loved the phrase and thought it would be a more unique way to express the feeling when someone has you completely and utterly by the heartstrings. I wanted to write a happy, summer song that would hopefully make people feel good, as the constant news cycle throughout this past year has been incredibly upsetting and depressing. I wanted to write an anthem for the summer, a song that helps people escape and makes them feel excited about their life, significant other, family, anything! I just wanted to bring a bit of sunshine into a world that always seems enveloped by darkness.”Continue reading
New York Singer/Songwriter Sydney Lauren goes one on one with theaussieword.com!
Give us an introduction. How did it all begin? What had you first interested in music? When I was a child, I was extremely shy. Performing is probably something you’d never think I’d go into. I was always a huge music lover but I stuck to singing in my bedroom when no one was home. My grandparents had a beautiful antique piano in their home and whenever we would go visit I’d sit there for hours and dabble. Eventually my parents had enough of my begging and they let me take piano and guitar lessons. I figured if I could accompany myself with an instrument, it’d be easier to sing in front of people. Eventually my passion developed and I started writing and performing more and more!Continue reading
Nashville alt-pop artist Megan Davies stops by theaussieword.com.
Give us an introduction. How did it all begin? What had you first interested in music? I first picked up the guitar when I was 12 and fell in love with it – basically never put it down. I eventually moved to Nashville when I was 19 to study guitar in college and hoped to play professionally one day. Flash forward a few years and I found success in the most unlikely place – doing covers on YouTube. Since then I’ve enjoyed writing and playing and making music for people all over the world.
