We covered P’ARIS on theaussieword.com last year, now Tyler returns but this time as a combined project with Said The Whale for brand new single Confidence. We caught up with Tyler, here’s what he had to say about the new track.
Originally I had my friend Rosie do vocals on the song, but for Said The Whale’s version I sang it. Confidence is a song about slowly coming to terms with the realities of adulthood. A few years ago my best friend became a father – he was the first in my tight group of friends to have a kid. I asked him if he was nervous to be a dad, to be responsible for another life, and he told me he wasn’t. For some reason that really shocked me. At the time, I couldn’t imagine being so selfless. Lyrically this song is fairly abstract, but that was the basic premise. Since writing this song, I myself have become a father and am less afraid of growing old, so the song feels poignant and meaningful.
