NEW MUSIC | Patrick James ‘In New Light’

Patrick James announces the release of his debut album Outlier, with the news of two new partnerships with Alberts and Create Control as the buzz grows around his upcoming shows circling the country with The Paper Kites

Alberts have inked James for a global publishing deal which will open up the world for the new album which includes the singles ‘California Song’ and‘Bugs’ as well as the new track ‘In New Light’ which premieres online.

“I am very excited about joining the Alberts family,” said Patrick James. “They have such an amazing history in Australian music and I am humbled to get to work alongside them. It’s the perfect timing for the release of my debut album ‘Outlier’.”

Outlier will be released on October 16, with a new distribution deal through Create Control with whom James worked on previous EPs Broken Lines andAll About to Change. With over 11,000 EPs sold and both previous releases hitting the iTunes charts, the album will represent a singer emerging from underground songsmith to global artist.

“I have made close and important relationships at Create Control,” said James. “I’m looking forward to working with the team for my album release.”

The new track ‘In New Light’ is another signpost for fans as to what they can expect from Outlier. The song sees Patrick James mining folk and country influences to add to his indie pop/rock arsenal.

Originally hailing from Port Macquarie, Patrick James began making a name for himself after relocating to Australia’s largest city, Sydney. Reminiscent of the origin stories of global acts like Passenger, Ed Sheeran and Australian artist Vance Joy, Patrick began his act on the streets, performing as an on-again-off-again busker.

Patrick caught the ears of major Australian group Boy & Bear, who introduced Patrick to tens of thousands of fans as the support act on their biggest national Australian tour to date. With a new brand as Australia’s answer to James Bay, Patrick followed the tour with a breath-taking cover of The Church’s “Under The Milky Way” which was picked up by Australian TV drama Wonderland(and broadcast to millions, in 12 different countries), released two EP’s, sold out headline shows throughout Australia and New Zealand multiple times and supported the likes of Emma Louise, Josh Pyke and in October/November this year, The Paper Kites.

An honest and true songsmith with an innate flair for soft acoustics, stirring harmonies and a heavy-hearted lyric, Patrick James’ Outlier is a confident road map for the career of one of Australia’s best new songwriters.
