New Music: Gypsy & The Cat ‘Inside Your Mind’

Two guys chasing a dude wearing a giant realistic looking cat head through Tokyo streets. Must be Gypsy & The Cat. Filmed in Japan, using artist Housetu Sato’s famous woollen cat head for a jaunt through Tokyo, the video for ‘Inside Your Mind’ see’s Lionel and Xavier don bright blue overalls. Both wielding sizeable nets, it’s clear. They’re out to catch a big one! The response to the Melbourne duo’s track ‘Inside Your Mind’ has been overwhelming following its February Indie Shuffle premiere. Reaching number two on the Hype Machine Charts and with plays on US radio powerhouse KCRW in the first week, the first taste from their forthcoming album has laid a solid foundation for what’s to come. Boasting ARIA and Hype Machine charting singles, three songs in the triple j Hottest 100, plus international chart and touring feats in places like Germany, Denmark and Sweden; Gypsy & the Cat and success are no longer just flirting with each other. They’re shacking up and settling down. Mixed by Dave Fridmann (Tame Impala, MGMT, Neon Indian, The Flaming Lips) and mastered byMike Marsh (Chemical Brothers, Basement Jaxx, Depeche Mode), ‘Inside Your Mind’ is the first taste of an exciting year ahead. Spending a chunk of the last year in Japan to channel inspiration from a myriad of creative influences, ‘Inside Your Mind’ indicates a new muse. A new era. Showing no signs of pussy-footing around, Gypsy & The Cat have a four date March tour with another single and part two to their Tokyo cat search on the way very soon. Will it be nothing but net? Watch this space.
