Felix Riebl’s ‘Lonely Truth’ EP is a stunning four-track signpost, not just teasing the release of his break-out album due in 2016, but also cutting an artistic, personal, and political statement of its own, the four-tracks revealing a singer/songwriter with a far-travelled, raw, and vulnerable confidence. According to Riebl, ‘Lonely Truth’ is the rough-mix of a song from a lost session, packing an ‘in the moment’ emotional punch that was too good to re-record. It is an emotional, vast, and mysterious summer anthem, completed by horns and choir, with a chorus that appears out of nowhere and feels like it’s been there for years. With hints of his understated debut solo release ‘Into The Rain,’ (2011) it bridges a gap between then and now by way of a rambling, unhinged, and masterful performance by those same musicians.
Felix is a performer who has shone bright on some of the greatest stages in the world, using that time to observe his surroundings with an intricate, tough, and musically open-minded sensibility. Felix Riebl the singer/songwriter has been disguised behind Australia’s premier festival outfit but is now ready to emerge as a poetic, Australian song-writing presence in his own right. This EP is a confident step into the limelight.
