Malawi Mission for Brendan Rendall

** Updated July 13, 2015 – Brendan gives theaussieword.com a personal update on his astounding journey for the kids of Africa.

Over the last 10 weeks I have taken on a marathon challenge to help raise money for FOMO friends of Mulanje Orphans to help build a school in the African country.

After a life changing trip in 2008 when I cycled across the amazing county, I went onto travel the world and dedicate time to fund raise for FOMO. It also inspired me in the UK to leave a secure retail management job and start working with children with autism.

Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world with school ratios being84 children to 1 teacher and only 20% of children have access to desks or a chair. There is also only 1 doctor to every 100,000 people.

FOMO support and provides for 4,500 orphans and 100% of the donations go to the projects. So far, over the last 10 weeks I’ve completed, 3 marathons and a huge 58km Ultra marathon.

Still to come >

  • Manchester Marathon
  • Windermere Marathon
  • Yeovil Marathon
  • 58km Ultimate Lakeland Mountainous trails marathon

  • August 9th – 50km UltraMarathon
  • September – 309km Coast to Coast of the UK (7marathons in 7days)

2016 >>

  • London Marathon – run the full length of Malawi 560miles/902 km in 20 days.

The money raised will go directly to building the art and science block and give these vulnerable children an education they deserve.

So far Andy Bell from Erasure has donated £1000/$2071 AUS dollar and Rocco Richie, Madonna’s son has posted 2 pictures on Instagram in support.

Please support my campaign any amount will make a difference.

Thanks Brendan

=========================================

theaussieword.com caught up with Brendan Rendall, a man who’s on a mission for the children of Malawi!

In 2008 and 2009 I was very fortunate to be part of a team that cycled across parts of Malawi visiting a range of projects from orphanages, HIV clinics and farming resource centres.  My time spent in Malawi has had a huge impact on my life and the children there have inspired me.

Since 2008 I have been a supporter of FOMO Friends of Mulanje Orphans an incredible charity that feeds, supports and cares for 5,000 orphans. www.fomo.co.uk
Having seen the developments of the skills centre, care centres, hospital, clinic and more the work they have done is truly inspirational. What I am inspired by is that the money gets there and I have witnessed the progress.
The Project and Challenge.
I have set myself a huge challenge but am determined to achieve it.  The goal is to raise £35,000 to build the additional school block for the secondary school which will allow the children access to Art and Science.

So over the next 10 months I am planning a variety of collections, fund raising events, school visits and will be running,

Manchester Marathon                           April 19th 2015
Windermere Marathon                          May 17th 2015
Lake Land Ultra Marathon (35miles)    June 27th 2015

This weekend I completed a race the The Lake District dressed as a Christmas Pudding.
