Exclusive Special Interview: EVERMORE

theaussieword.com meets with one of the hottest bands on the planet EVERMORE

What can you tell our readers about you? How and where did it all begin?
Evermore started in 1999 when my brothers & me decided to enter a highschool band competition. We were homeschooled by music loving hippie parents who introduced us to the Beatles & Bob Dylan. After setting up a studio in the biggest room in the house we made a couple of EPs before making our first album & moving to Australia in 2004.

What had you first interested in music?
Music makes life better. It elevates the normal & tells you you are more just another kid. It made me feel connected to cool guys in New York & London in a different decade. I felt like I connected with them. I didn’t feel I connected with a lot of people in our small town in New Zealand.

Do you have any planned tours coming up?
We are touring with Maroon 5 & then with Matchbox 20 + INXS over the next  couple of months. We’ll be doing our own headline tour early next year.

What are some of your biggest goals you hope to accomplish as an artist?
Having longevity in music is not the norm. This is our 4th album & we’re all under 30. We want to keep making music that’s blasted over the radio, part of people’s lives, that’s exciting to us, be together doing what we love, & encourage the next crop of talented musicians taking their music out there.

What can fans expect from you in the coming months?
I’m currently getting ideas for the video clip for the next single which will be out in the next couple of months.

Success, what is the secret to it and what has been your biggest career highlight so far?
Success is something of a byproduct of absolutely giving yourself to something you love.
If you’re only interest is success you’ll lose interest. It’s the love of doing what you do that keeps you coming back.

Which stars of the music industry do you find inspiring?
I loved Bob Dylan because he seemed to buck whatever trend was happening & then create the next trend in the proccess unintentionally.

How would you best describe you and your music to your fans?
Evermore to me has always been a balance between big music & intimate lyrics.

What can you tell us about your latest album?
A very natural album for us. Songs that we wrote for friends and family, personal but feel universal. The most proud I’ve been of anything we’ve created.

Name a few of your favourite Aussie artists.
The Panics, Husky, Temper Trap, Tin Sparrow, Lisa Mitchell, Men at Work, Crowded House and The Seekers.

The shape of the music industry has changed significantly over the years, including the use of social media, how do you feel about the industry as a whole and what does it mean to you in getting your records out into the public eye?
When started making music Napster hadn’t happened & when we first had success Facebook didn’t exist so things have changed fast. Music is the same, people use it differently. People may now know what artists had for breakfast but they still either like your music or not.

Amazing interview guys, thank you!
