Exclusive Interview: Josey Greenwell

theaussieword.com caught up with Singer, Songwriter and Model Josey Greenwell. The boy is hot hot hot! ……Please excuse me as I try to cool down.

What can you tell our readers about you? How and where did it all begin?
Well, it all began back in high school when I started singing in the choir. Actually was forced into it haha and from then I discovered I enjoyed singing and continued on after I graduated. The songwriting came soon after…

What had you first interested in music?
I used to show quarter horses when I was little, so we would travel and drive around listening to music from show to show all the time and that’s where my writing style I was derived from.

Who motivates or influences your quest to make great music?
There are so many great artists out there right now, but I think my biggest influence so far is anyone who is ACTUALLY writing the music they are singing, like Adele, Keith Urban, Gaga, artists who come from a songwriting background. I think that is the true necessity in my artistry is that I can express myself 100% to my audience through my emotions in a song. Its so cool and thats my biggest influence.

Do you have any planned tours coming up?
Actually a lot is in the works at the moment, but as far as a tour of myself I can’t reveal yet!!! But I won’t be the only artist on it 😉

What are some of your biggest goals you hope to accomplish as an artist?
I want my music to reach as many people as I can, and for me that means by an means possible haha! I mean I’ve been all around Europe, USA, and Mexico trying to reach people myself and I’m not even signed with a label! I just think if I can connect with people and personally reach out to them and talk to them that means so much more than just any poster or cd they can have. Its about connecting with my audience and letting them know that they are 100% the reason I want to do this. I think one of my biggest goals as well right now is to really find the right team to work with management or record label wise. I think it’s important to surround myself with the same vision as me and I think that time is almost here 🙂

What can fans expect from you in the coming months?
I think with the release of my recent single “Stuck in My Head” fans really got a listen of my writing style and have really responded very great towards it. So I think its a good indication of where my music is heading and what they can expect, although, what they are about to hear they will have NEVER expected it. Every song is literally so completely absolutely different from the other because I’m influenced by so many people, cultures, and moments especially as I’ve been traveling…so I think they are in for some great material.

Success, what is the secret to it and what has been your biggest career highlight so far?
I think the secret to success is happiness really. I think being personally happy with each of your successes is very important to motivate you to continue striving for me. My absolute biggest career highlight thus far has been being a guest featured on Gloria Trevi’s 2012 Tour down in Mexico City for 2 dates in the Auditorio Nacional. It was literally like an unbelievable show. I was so amazed.

Which stars of the music industry do you find inspiring?
I love when artists stand for something as oppose to just doing music. For example, I like everything Taylor Swift stands for. I think she’s a hugely influential role model and she’s very aware of that. I was very impressed with Adam Lamberts recent CD. It’s very good!

How would you best describe you and your music to your fans?
I have a very autobiographical writing style, so I like to write about personal experiences and emotions. I think the best aspect about it is people can pull their own experiences out of it and relate it to their own personal life. When I hear a song on the radio, I try to put the feelings into what I’m feeling and I think the way I write people can really do that, especially with this upcoming album. As far as me, I’m as laid back as you can get haha. I’m so down to earth in a sense that it doesn’t take much to make me happy, but at the same time I know exactly what I want in life. 🙂

What can you tell us about your latest album?
I’m on a mission with this album….haha. It’s going to be verrrry real and very different. It’s pop, and I have been working with some amazing producers who can almost see into my mind its crazy. So I’m blessed to have found that. But hopefully I can team up with the right people label wise to be able to reach as many people as I can with it. I’m so excited!!!

Are there any new exciting projects in the works?
oooooooooh YEAHHHHHHHHH!!!!

The music industry is huge, where do you see yourself a few years from now?
I set my goals really really really high. Sometimes thats bad, but most the time its worked out for me 🙂 I see myself really having touched a lot of people with my music and hopefully a few years from now having a couple tours under my belt. Would be amazing.

Name a few of your favourite Aussie artists.
Right now I’ve really been into Beyonce. Her live is amazing. My all time favorite artist is Keith Urban, followed by the writings of John Mayer I really like. I’m not gonna lie I’m a Britney fan haha, so her music has always been in my life.

The shape of the music industry has changed significantly over the years, including the use of social media, how do you feel about the industry as a whole and what does it mean to you in getting your records out into the public eye?
You are certainly right I think the industry has changed drastically with social media, but for me it means staying even more connected. I mean I read everything on Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Instagram all of it. So it’s amazing to hear peoples feedback on things I’m doing. Honestly all of the YouTube covers I was doing really helped me decipher which style people liked my voice in and which writings they loved the most. It’s been a great marketing tool as well as research wise hearing what people have to say and what they would like to hear. I love it and am so thankful for every bit of it! I think the public is a huge part in all of this, especially when things go viral. So I just hope I can always make the people supporting me proud 🙂

  1. ^Go eat some cheese fries you'll feel better. He's so busy he may have just misheard the question. It happens to the best of us. I bet Josey loves Kylie Minogue. The interviewer and Josey were great in this.

  2. Obviously the guy isn't into Australian artists. Like most Y generation, they can't see past what the rest of the Y generation are seeing, listening to or talking about. You know the story, everyone else likes such and such and so I guess I should too. I'll give him one thing, he really hot.
