New Music: Barefoot Alley ‘See Me Clearly’

Brisbane’s Barefoot Alley have returned with a new single “See Me Clearly”, from their upcoming second album due later in 2016. Since their formation in late 2011, brother-sister duo Barefoot Alley have stomped their way across most of the country and back again, bringing their unique bluestinged barnstorming rock to Australia’s most iconic venues alongside similarly iconic bands. After a hectic touring schedule in early 2015, Hayden (guitar/vocals) and Sophie (drums) took a step back to start progress on the follow up to 2013’s 24 Hours. Contrary to 24 Hours’ hectic recording, Hayden and Sophie both decided to leisurely explore an evolution in sound for the follow up, bringing into the studio the experience and knowledge that only comes from a battle-hardened outfit, building further on the pummelling rock riffs that they’re already well known for as well as delving into the negative space, slowing it down and steadying the sound. That’s where the first single, “See Me Clearly”, comes in. “We really had the time to branch out in the studio for this one,” says Hayden. “It afforded us a lot more chances to experiment, as well as having the capability to expand out from our traditional instruments – the first introduction of keys and a twelve-string guitar to the band on ‘See Me Clearly’ for example.” “See Me Clearly” isn’t entirely divorced from the bands roots – Hayden’s vocals retain the trademark swaggered drawl, reigning over the delicate guitar and Sophie’s deft drumming. The result is a dreamy midway between Barefoot Alley’s signature sound and ballad, a slowed-down distillation of their sound to date…serving as the perfect teaser for album number two.
