New Music: Olly Chamberlain ‘Backburner’

Showcasing the London singer/songwriter’s powerful, soulful vocals, ‘Backburner’ takes elements from 90s R&B and fuses with modern, tropical sounds to create an infectious and soaring tune.
Olly has been singing for as long as he can remember, “My earliest memory is of me singing in a church choir when I was 5. My brother and I used to improvise on clarinet and saxophone while my dad would play a slow 12 bar blues. Music is everything to me”. Growing up in a family obsessed with music has given Olly a rich platform to start creating his own music. He lists influences as diverse as Stevie Wonder and Tracy Chapman to John Legend and Sam Cooke.

Recently, while finishing a degree in Philosophy, Olly began amassing a fanbase online. His YouTube channel is currently nearing 10,000 subscribers, and his collection of unique cover versions has had over 630,000 views. Since then, Olly has been writing his own music and playing small shows.

‘Backburner’ is the first of Olly’s original songs to be revealed, and will be followed by the release of an EP later this year. The track is produced by London production team Rookeez. Olly has also been writing for other artists, and his co-write for Marcus McCoan is currently picking up attention from music bloggers.

Olly said: “Backburner is a classic breakup song, which channels the chilled mid tempo songs I grew up on in the 90s, but I’ve given it a modern twist”
